OCCUPATION TITLES USED IN JobsAtAnyTime

How to use Occupation Title tree Ref#247

Job seekers can use occupation titles to identify their current or most recent job title held as well as what they want in the jobs to be searched. To make searching easier, Occupation titles are organized in the form of a multi-level tree.

1) When selecting the current occupation title, care should be taken to choose a title that is as low in the tree as possible. Lower levels mean more specific titles.

2) Higher levels are broader in scope. Here the title refers to the entire collection of titles in the branches below it. While identifying occupation titles that a job seeker wants to pursue (in jobs to be searched and matched), carefully select the high level titles. By choosing an appropriate high-level title in the tree, the seeker will find all jobs that match any of the titles in the lower levels.

Limitations of "Occupation Titles": As Job Titles become less meaningful and vague, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Job seekers to find jobs & employers to find candidates solely by searching for occupation titles.

Job titles also, rarely convey the expertise or functions accurately unless they are "stereotype" titles such as Electrician, Carpenter etc. For this reason, the JJ program uses "Functional Areas" and "key skills" for mapping expertise and conducting searches.

Therefore, JJ strongly recommends that you use key skills in conjunction with occupation titles for better search results.
